Board of Education Candidates
Position Papers - Please remember to VOTE November 8th

Gary Klein, Democrat Candidate
1. Superintendent search:
We need to find a superintendent who will put the needs of all of Stamford’s children first. The best candidate
will have extensive classroom and school administrative experience. The best candidate will also have “people
skills” that bring the community and stakeholders together to achieve the
collective goal of educating our
children at the highest level. Finally, the best candidate will understand that the superintendent is the Board’s
employee and is
answerable and accountable to the electorate that the Board represents.
2. Budget:
The Board of Education’s role is to make the necessary investments to educate all children at the highest level
while insuring transparency and efficiency
for the taxpayers. Money must go to the classroom, not to fad projects
or central office administration. The Board must also advocate for school funding at the local level and push
the State of Connecticut to give Stamford its fair share of state money.
3. Middle School Reform:
Middle School Reform has been a critical component of our overall goal of raising the bar for all students. Restructuring the curriculum and eliminating
rigid tracking have brought us forward. We must continue to evaluate Middle School Reform and make surgical changes where necessary to insure that
we are targeting instruction properly so that we allow all children to find the path to success
